This is a beautiful story about Krishna’s flute……

Everyday Krishna had this habit of going in the garden where all his beautiful flowers and plants grew and say to all of them in his tender most way, ‘I love you all.’  The plants and trees were so very happy and they too responded saying joyously ‘Krishna, we love You too.’

One day Krishna rushed quickly into the garden very alarmed.  He went to the bamboo plant and the plant asked, ‘Krishna, what’s wrong. Has something happened?’  Krishna said ‘I have something to ask you, but is very difficult my beautiful plant, I just cannot say these words.’ The bamboo plant said, ‘Tell me, if I can, I will surely give it to you.’ So Krishna said in a sad voice, ‘I need your life, I need to cut you.’

The bamboo plant thought for a while and then said ‘You don’t have any other choice.  You don’t have any other way?’  Krishna said, ‘No, no other way, my dear plant.’ And the plant said ‘For sure, dear Krishna, I am all yours. Take what is yours.’ and gave himself up without any fusses or worries.  So Krishna cut the bamboo and made holes in it, and each time, he carved the holes, the bamboo was crying in acute pain……

Krishna made a beautiful flute out of it and this flute was with him all the time. Twenty-four hours a day, it was with Krishna. He never left it even when he went to sleep. Even the Gopis were jealous of the flute. They said a little mockingly, ‘Look Krishna is our Lord, but yet we get to spend only sometime with him.  He wakes up with you, He sleeps with you, and all the time you are with him.’  Gopis further asked the bamboo plant, ‘Tell us your secret.  What secret do you have, that the Lord treasures you so much?’

The Bamboo said, ‘The secret is that, I gave myself up and he did whatever was right for me, in the process I had to undergo a lot of pain.  And the Lord does whatever he wants with me, whenever he wants with me and however he wants with me.  I have just become his Instrument.’

So this is complete surrender: Where God can do whatever He wants with you, whenever He wants, as He wants. Trust him completely and have faith in Him and always think you are in His hands, what can ever go wrong? Nothing. Either he may break us or make us. His grace is with us at all times. This is called COMPLETE SURRENDRANCE.

  3. Hi Kamal, first off, I never read this. But this was the best thing I read today.
Secondly, again, you come back with a morale, and it deeply touches me. Thanks so much for this positive outcome with this mythical plot.

    1. Thanks for the beautiful comment dear Moushmi and when I read this story I was totally captured with the complete surrender of the Flute to its master. Hope we could be like the Flute and surrender completely.

  4. A wonderful tale depicting the trust in faith you must put in Him knowing you are safe in His hands. Through pain, hardships and rough moments as in the Trials of Job, you believe in the Lord and everything will be harmonious. Wonderful write my friend.

      1. Yes of course we have to be like the Bamboo who gave up his very life for his Lord Krishna and told him do whatever you wish to with me. That is what we need to do, Rajini. Simply surrender to Him who knows us all.
