He Works Through Us To Give Hope…….

Sheena was a mother of three children and had recently completed her college degree as she always wished to study but did not have time as she had married very early and her children were quite independent. This is her story of How an inspiring Breakfast Meal changed her life forever:

‘The last class before I graduated from college was Sociology. The teacher had inspiring qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with. Her last project of the term was called ‘Smile’. The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.

Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald’s one crisp March morning. It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not move an inch, an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around I smelled a horrible ‘dirty body’ smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was ‘smiling’. His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God’s Light as he searched for acceptance.

He said, ‘Good day’ as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized he was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation. I held my tears back as I stood there with them. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said ‘Coffee is all Miss,’ because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. They just wanted to be warm). Then I really felt it, the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes.

That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray. I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman’s cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, ‘Thank you.’ I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, ‘I did not do this for you. God is here working through me to give you hope.’

I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, ‘That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.’ We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of His Grace that he showers on us at all times, we were able to give.  That day showed me the pure Light of God’s sweet Love.

I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand. I turned in ‘my project’ and the instructor read it. Then she looked up at me and said, ‘Can I share this?’ I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class.   She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God, share this need to heal people and to be healed. In my own way I touched the people at McDonalds, my husband, son, instructor and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student. I graduated with one for the biggest lessons I would ever learn: UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE.

God sends so much love and compassion to each and every person that we need to learn how to LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS – NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE. To handle yourself, use your head, to handle others use your heart. God gives every bird it’s food, but he does not throw it into its nest. Keep on giving. There lies your happiness.’

  2. Such a beautiful story, Kamal. It reminds me of a time my husband and I were shopping in a large grocery store. I recognised an elderly beggar that I had seen often at the traffic lights outside the store. He was trying to buy food with the money he had accumulated through begging during the day. I saw him pick up a few items and then replace them as he didn’t have enough money. I pointed out what was happening to my hubby and, bless me, if he didn’t go right over to this man and give him R100. We saw the elderly man a bit later on in the queue to pay and he had used all the money we had given him for staple food like bread, milk and eggs. So sad.

    1. So beautiful Robbie and you feel so nice when you help these people who are really wanting and circumstances make all of us who know how. God though knows who we all are and who requires what and he sure is there in all of us giving hope to the needy. Thanks for the lovely share and it is so nice doing that with others too. Giving and giving is so beautiful.

This touched me deeply … It reminded me of God’s unconditinal acceptance of me so what right to I have to with hold in from others? It also remindes me that God uses us to reach those around us, if we will only only let them… Thank you Kamal from boundlessblessingsblog.wordpress.com for sharing…

    1. Thanks friend for your great words and yes I so agree with you that if we let God in, He will show you the way and He never his children hungry or he knows how to help them thru us. It is so good to help people who are needy and they too are His children just like how we all are and why not give hope to them instead of shoving them. Being selfless is so good than being selfish.

  4. That was really inspiring! I also have a soft spot for those who have much less and always share food or money whenever I pass by homeless people. I think that was really lovely of you to do something like that for those who needed it. May God bless you even more! 🙂

  5. Kamal, this story gave me chills I was so touched. The gratitude of that poor, cold blue-eyed man, shunned by almost everyone else, brought tears to my eyes.

We must ALL remember, when we see those less fortunate, that God smiled on us because he trusted us to smile on others.

    1. Thanks dear for your awesome words and yes God works in such wonderful ways he knows what is to be done with these poor souls and how they are helped by the people who are so kind and benevolent too. Yes for sure why not when we see such people do not give money but anything else and see beautiful smiles on their faces on they are so wonderful.

  7. Well Kamal, a minute ago you had me laughing and now I am crying. I turns me inside out to see people hungry and cold, I’ve been there, and being judged for situations they might find themselves in. This is a lesson to us all.
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Matthew 25:35-36
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Matthew 25:40
    God Bless you 🙂
